Dessert with No Regrets
Have you ever tired of cheesecake? Oh, a lot of them are yummilicious alright but there are times when it sits like a rock in your stomach!
Cheesecake appreciation is at hand!
The first time I had Christine Leow’s MD2 Pineapple Cheesecake, I was lifted onto cloud nine, a cloud of fluffy, velvety light, mouthfuls of non-sweet deliciousness that took me by surprise.
“This is a cheesecake?” I said to my friend the sourdough Baker Queen Ann Tan who had introduced me to the cheesecake. “Yes,” she said, “That’s why I wanted you to try it.”
All I can say is a thousand thank you’s, Ann. You have brought me a dessert that I can finally eat with no reservation. These cheesecakes are handmade, with no preservatives, no colouring, no artificial flavouring and made with fresh fruits. And the sweetening comes naturally from the pineapples!
“But pineapples can be sour!” I hear you protest, dear reader.
But not MD2 pineapples. Originating from the Philippines, MD2 pineapples are naturally sweet and it’s taking over Malaysian fruit growers by storm. I tasted a raw pineapple and I have to say it is one of the sweetest pineapples I have ever tasted. Hence Christine’s idea to only use the pineapple and skip the sugar.
And what a brilliant idea it is. Today, the cheesecakes are in huge demand and the prices also make that demand even more attractive. At RM30 for a Small (5”) and RM60 for a Big (8”), celebrating birthdays or any occasion has never been easier or cheaper. I brought a small one to a birthday celebration where there were six people and Christine immediately got two more fans from that.
And I would also recommend her Pineapple Jam at RM10 a jar.
Christine also dehydrates her pineapples for decoration but perhaps readers can persuade her to part with some for nibbling at a reasonable price?
